About Judy Mainwaring

Judy has been taking photographs since the age of 15, and was taught the art of composition and the importance of light by her father, Edwin. He helped her develop and print her first black and white pictures in the darkroom at home.  She acquired her first Pentax auto-focus camera in 1992 and joined the local Photographic Society, which gave her further inspiration. In 1997 she purchased a home computer and flatbed scanner and started on the exciting road to discovering digital imaging and what can be done without needing a darkroom. Judy's excitement for the art of photography is plain to see when you meet her, she has a real passion for recording events as they happen, and the advent of high quality digital SLR cameras and latest technology printers has revolutionised the process of producing prints.

Judy is the President of Shropshire Photographic Society and is one of the leaders of the digital imaging activity at the club. Judy takes pictures for pleasure but is also an established freelance photographer, undertaking a variety of work connected with photography, digital imaging and desktop publishing. She also enjoys doing restorations of old photographs and computer training in digital imaging. She works mainly as a Freelance Press Photographer for the local papers, the Shrewsbury Chronicle, The Shropshire Star, The Shropshire Magazine. She works freelance for ReviewMedia in Bridgnorth as Photographer and Mac Operator, helping to produce the Shropshire Review magazine and other publications. Judy has also undertaken photographic work for Shropshire County Council, Age Concern, The Severn Hospice, the Shrewsbury Senior Citizens Forum, and various PR agencies such as Montpellier in Cheltenham, who do the PR work for the Territorial Army. Judy is also taking on weddings and infomal portraits this year, she hopes a woman's eye view will attract the modern bride and groom.
